Wasteland 3 Development

The game was announced by inXile on 28 September 2016, with the company also announcing a crowd-funding campaign on the video game crowd-funding website called "Fig". The goal of the campaign is $2.75 million and was launched on 5 October in addition to the first trailer of the game. In addition, the revenue generated from sales of Wasteland 2 will also be used in the development of the game. The game is slated to be released in Q4 2019. inXile is also being assisted by Brotherhood Games in having high graphical quality for Wasteland 3. The game reached its crowdfunding goal on 8 October, with stretch goals for the crowdfunding campaign being revealed.

Wasteland 3 Setting

The game will take place in the wasteland of Colorado, it's a tundra-like frozen area outside Desert Rangers' territory. In Wasteland 3 you take command of a squad of Desert Rangers, lawmen, and women in a post-nuclear world, trying to rebuild society from the ashes. More than a century after the bombs fell, you’re fighting a losing battle to keep your beloved Arizona alive. Then the self-proclaimed Patriarch of Colorado radios, promising aid if you'll do a job he can only entrust to an outsider—rescue his land from the ambitions of his three bloodthirsty children.

You’re dispatched on a desperate quest from the scorching deserts to the snowy mountains to start from scratch, building a new base, finding a snow-worthy vehicle, training new recruits, and fighting your way through hostile frozen wastes. All the while, you'll have to decide who to trust in this land torn apart by corruption, intrigue, warring factions, crazed cultists, cutthroat gangs, and bitter sibling rivalries. Build a reputation for yourself by making decisions that will profoundly impact Colorado, its inhabitants, and the story you experience. Will you be Colorado’s savior or its worst nightmare?

Wasteland 3 Gameplay

The game will be a party-based roleplaying game like the previous game, or Fallout 2. The players will have a Ranger Base which will act as a hub for quests and can also be used for research, gathering materials, recruiting new party members, and make contact with other factions via radio to set up supply lines. As the player progresses, they can also improve the base. The fate of the region, factions, and the settlements will depend on the choices you made.

The game will include revamped combat with the addition of features like environmental hazards. It also includes a revamped dialog-tree system as well as graphics. It will also add vehicles, which can be used for traveling, storing goods, exploring, survival as well as in combat. While most of the game will be in isometric, the camera will come down during conversations and focus on the NPCs. It will also behave similarly during some other events.

For the first time in the series, an optional cooperative mode will be included for the campaign, allowing players to work together through major plot points while also having the ability to split up and focus on their own goals outside of those main missions. Players can continue their campaign even when their friend is offline, but InXile notes there will be consequences for doing so.

Wasteland 3 also adds vehicles to the game, which can be used for travel, storing goods, exploring the world, and simply surviving. The franchise’s Ranger base will function as more than a location to take on new missions, allowing players to research, gather materials, and make contact with factions via radio to set up supply lines and more.
